Now this ice surface would be pretty hard to skate on let alone walk on. I was down to Kinsmen Beach on Lake Nipissing yesterday afternoon as a snow squall moved in from the west across the lake and was quite surprised to see the shapes of the ice at the beach. It looked like a beach full of ice balls, similar in size to 5 pin bowling balls. There were also a few mounds of these balls further out on the ice, randomly strewn. I have no idea how or why the ice forms were made, or how or why the mounds of ice balls were made.
I have to suggest that this will not make for good ice this winter, as there is no consistency in it's composition, if this ice holds. Or unless something changes.

Hail
yeah, right, Dave. These are balls that are between softball size to soccer ball size.
I can't say that I've ever seem the ice do that.
Wonder how that will affect driving on it for fishing.
Very interesting ice conditions Rob. No I have never seen this before. It makes for good images though.
Okay...Big hail!!
They're sand pebbles - where's Steve McQueen?
