This section of a white spruce tree was taken from a felled tree from Doon Pioneer Village in Kitchener, ON. This was a massive tree that was "destroyed" due to the building of a new subdivision at Frog Hollow, and it was believed it may have been infested with ants or termites; although, there are no signs of insect infestation on this slab. The slab is mounted on the outside of our wood shed that is sided with Northern Ontario white spruce.

Butch and Suzie cut it down because it was in the way of that huge porch they added to their house.

Now that's a sad reason to destroy a "heritage" tree. I thought they were into the whole "heritage" thing.

How large is this piece?
How old is the tree?

This piece is almost 3 feet in diameter, and the tree was over 100 years old.

Too Close to the house. Would have had to come down sooner than later. Probably 80 years old.
Replaced this one tree with 14
20ft Spruce Trees we transplanted from a pheasant meadow near New Dundee. For a man who heats with wood, the heritage thing was never a factor. When ever cutting a tree that size you have to consider all factors. With the sub division just starting it was easy to fall on to the road and clean it up.
