It looks like all-in-one dancing here - something for everybody.

Thursday, September 16, 2010

The North Bay Capital Center, formerly the Capital Theater - a great venue for both movies and live music.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

We have an old motel in town, The Sands, though quite a bit different from The Sands in Vegas.

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Sign of the times - Not only is the ad for cheap beer, the economy is such that there's been nothing to replace it.

Monday, September 13, 2010

Still more decking to do and then new stairs down from the deck.

Sunday, September 12, 2010

Ryan and I are working on a weekend project to construct the lower deck for our house. Today's job is basically to install the decking as yesterday's work was installing the beams, joists and supports.

Saturday, September 11, 2010

It's that time of year again - time when the heat/warmth starts leaving the lake. Hopefully we're in for more warm weather before the cold does set in.

Friday, September 10, 2010

OK, one more from the fog. MJ, what can you tell us about Oxford Mills' Brigadoon restaurant?

Thursday, September 09, 2010

More "foggy" photos from Oxford Mills. I think this is the library building. Can you give us a contributing history comment on this one, Merrickville Jim?

Wednesday, September 08, 2010

It's amazing the shapes and colours that fungi come in.

Tuesday, September 07, 2010

Saw blades behind the North Grenville Archives building at Acton Corners.

Monday, September 06, 2010

White garage in Oxford Mills.

Sunday, September 05, 2010

When I was in Oxford Mills it was warm, not hot, and humid with rain. I took a bike trip through the area, and took pictures, of course. The humidity affected the camera as there was always mist on the lens, even with constant cleaning. The result was a number of photos "in the fog." This building, I believe, is either the Library or the Town Hall.

Saturday, September 04, 2010

Not sure of the use of this old building at Acton Corners, but it's a neat site as you barrel down the highway.

Friday, September 03, 2010

I came across this US blog featuring early colour photos of America in the 1940's that, unfortunately, I have misplaced. There really was colour back then. They were all pretty interesting photos as most photos from that time were in black and white. This one of an old juke joint in the southern states was one of my faves from the blog.

Thursday, September 02, 2010

It's September, and the weather is still fine, but the trees don't lie or fool anyone. They are starting to turn colour, indicating that the summer season is, unfortunately, winding down.

Wednesday, September 01, 2010

There are a lot of ways to photograph summer images, but this one has summer written all over it - Zoe clearly enjoying a boat ride around the lake.

Set #2 with Jake was a little more intimate, and just as fabulous!

The fans were in awe of Jake and loved every minute of the event.

Monday, August 30, 2010

Jake Thomas at the 2nd Annual Trout Lake Shaker last night. More to follow.
I'll be posting pics from yesterday's Trout Laker Shaker later. Here's the side door to my buddy Mike's barn. I think it's a yellowish colour now after this past weekend's wedding.

Sunday, August 29, 2010

Well our dance card will be full this evening. Looking forward to a grand day!

Saturday, August 28, 2010

Just down the road from Oxford Mills is this old church at Acton Corners. It's an old Presbyterian Church from 1879. Currently it's used mostly for weddings.

Friday, August 27, 2010

If you said `quaint` to describe Oxford Mills, Ontario you`d be partly correct. It is, but it also is a `depressed` little village. Here is a photo depicting the `quaint` side of the village.

Thursday, August 26, 2010

OK, I just got a new computer, and don`t have all the fancy Photoshop stuff I used to have. And, my monitor is showing me very washed out pale colours. So, I did a bit of Elements 8 on this just to try stuff out. What does it look like to you, not content, colour etc. Also, new HP keyboard and I`ll be damned if I can figure out how to get the question mark.
Roadkill. Can anyone identify what type of bird this used to be?

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Big Red keeps on truckin'. Although in a new locale and with a different "job", Big Red is still "working." She still starts up and runs fine, but now is a "farm" vehicle. We used it on the weekend for fuel gathering for one of our humongous bonfires.

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

In the "backwaters" of Oxford Mills and Merrickville there are no snow days for school kids. This little bruiser gets them to school on time in any conditions. On weekends it can be seen transporting the locals to church and to bingo.

Sunday, August 22, 2010

Just got back from the Oxford Mills/Merrickville neighbourhood and Home Alone 20. As always, it was a blast! Here the gang hams it up for the paparazzi during the trophy presentation.

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Lake Nipissing was quite windy and wavy on Tuesday.

Kayaks in wait at Laronde Beach on Lake Nipissing.

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Lake Simcoe just before the "cloud burst."

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Southwestern Ontario does have some nice old historic buildings. Less now than before as we tend to find more reasons to tear them down and replace then with new, albeit less attractive, in my and the UC's opinion, modern and stale/sterile structures (alliteration anyone?). This building lies at the end of Ontario Street in Stratford, and unfortunately I can't remember its current occupants, but I believe it may be the local justice building.

Monday, August 16, 2010

We were in Stratford on the weekend to visit my mom. We also saw Shakespeare's The Tempest with Christopher Plummer. It was excellent, but the show stealer was the woman who played Arial opposite Plummer. The photos above are of the old Stratford city hall.

Friday, August 13, 2010

This summer has been in a word FABULOUS. And it seems like the great weather is going to continue.

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Orphan Boy Bob and I entertained Skippy from Winnipeg on the links yesterday. It was a great day - good/bad golf and lots of laughs!

Sunday, August 08, 2010

Here's the group of Strawbs, Strawbs gone to seed and Strawbettes that were left over after the feting at the West Ferris Legion.

Saturday, August 07, 2010

Yesterday was the annual Killer Strawberries golf tournament. Here is the Plaid Shorts Team.

Friday, August 06, 2010

This is a view over North Bay looking east toward Trout Lake. We live under the red arrow.

Thursday, August 05, 2010

Hmmm, what kind of day will we have today? Photo 1, photo 2, a combo, or none of the above?

Wednesday, August 04, 2010

Mike points the way toward Ontario down the St. Lawrence River from Montreal's Mount Royal.

This is the tourist pavillion near the top of Mouint Royal. The summit is home to some communication towers and has no view of the surrounding area due to the forest cover at the top.

Monday, August 02, 2010

We went to a pig roast on the lake on Saturday, and aside from the fate of the pig, everything was fabulous!
